preparing your quilt

Before you bring your quilt to me, please check to see if you have met these guidelines:

** Quilt top should be pressed with loose threads trimmed and any pins removed

** Quilt top should be clean and free of any odors

** Reinforce any seams that may separate at the edge of the quilt, particularly if there are no borders

**Check the top for seams that may have come apart

** Indicate TOP of quilt on a note attached with a safety pin IF there is a definite direction to the quilt

** Make sure the top is squared up. Any discrepancies in measurements may cause puckers and tucks to occur. Not all problems can be “quilted out”!

** The backing, if pieced, should have selvages removed from seam (after seaming)

** Seams should be sewn with a 1/2″ seam allowance and pressed OPEN

** Indicate TOP of backing with a note attached with a safety pin IF there is a definite direction to the backing

** The backing should be AT LEAST 6″ larger than the top ON ALL SIDES. It makes quilting the edges of the quilt much easier!

** Backing edges should be straight and evenly squared up.

** Bed sheets are NOT acceptable as backing fabric! You will be unhappy with the results.

***If you are uncertain of the best way to prepare your backing fabric, contact me!

I have a method that works well for both of us.
